The official website of Kodansha unveiled the winners of its 49th annual manga award on May 12, 2024.
The selection committee, comprised of notable figures from the manga industry, including Natsumi Ando (Something’s Wrong With Us), Tsunami Umino (The Full-Time Wife Escapist), Etsushi Ogawa (Cooking Master Boy), Koji Kumeta (Kakushigoto: My Dad’s Secret Ambition), Kaoru Hayamine (Mirage Queen), Norifusa Mita (Dragon Zakura), and Makoto Yukimura (Vinland Saga).
Each winner will receive a certificate and a bronze statue. The Shonen category winner will receive 2 million yen, while the Shojo and General category winners will each receive 1 million yen.

Best Shonen Manga
Winner: Versus by ONE, Kyotaro Azuma, BOSE

General Category
Winner: Historie by Hitoshi Iwaaki

- Nezumi no Hatsukoi
Kanehito Yamada & Tsukasa Abe’s Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End won the Best Shonen manga in the 48th Kodansha Manga award. Rumi Ichinohe’s I See Your Face, Turned Away won the Best Shojo manga and Tsurumaikada’s Medalist won the best manga in the general category.
Kodansha Manga Awards began in 1977, with categories for shōnen and shōjo. The first award for the general category was in 1982. Kodansha introduced a children’s category award in 2003. However, it was merged into the shonen and shojo categories starting in 2015.
